REHAB FOR ATHLETES
Heal Better Do More.
MODEX’s Athlete rehab and recovery programs bridge the gap between injury and continued Athletic activity. We are committed to helping you keep your body in optimal shape during this transitional time.
The effect an injury can have on the entire body is dramatic and too often this is overlooked by traditional therapy. When you suffer from an injury, the entire body can deteriorate. Crutches, bracing or simple immobility affects the entire body and individuals see weakness or compensation in other parts of the body as an effect of the injury.
By engaging in continuing education each year, we ensure that our programs consist of evidence-based best practices that allow us to create a unique, integrative approach to treat your injury as well as care for your whole body.
First, we conduct a full evaluation to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Then, along with consultation from your physician, we design a custom program that will get you back to, or better to where you were before. We will address any deficits that may have occurred from your injury and will also address those weaknesses that may have led to your injury in the first place.
A lot of athletic injuries occur due to inadequate core strength, so all programs support developing a strong core and strengthening stability muscles as a foundation.
Additionally, we work with you to engage in active stretching to create motion in your body while getting blood to the impacted tissues, which is most important. We will talk with you about adding more amino acids to your diet to repair damaged muscles. We carefully create a plan to strengthen stabilization muscles which allows you to put less strain and reduces risk to other muscles. We want you to complete this program feeling better, stronger, with a full range of motion and reduce the likelihood of re-injury.
Our Testimonials
I want to thank Coach Nunes for his help to make me get stronger and more fit. I have always been overweight and didn’t play any sports, but in 2021 I put on even more weight and was up to almost 300 pounds. My doctor told me I needed to eat healthier and lose weight for a long time. But in 2021 he told me I was pre-diabetic and I was putting strain my heart. I got scared and decided to work with Coach Nunes to see what would happen. At first it was really hard as I had never been in a proper exercise programme, but even then it was fun. He helped me and my parents understand what we should eat and what we should not eat. I can’t say I always followed that, but I did most of the time and have lost a lot of weight. I really enjoy everyone I have met at “The Yard” and am excited to go train. I have joined a swim team and feel so much better about myself and know that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.

Training in The Yard has improved my physical capabilities tremendously! It was instrumental in my jump from Secondary school football to becoming a Division 1 athlete. After three years of training at The Yard, I credit Maurice Nunes for transforming my fitness, speed, endurance, and strength. His incorporation of different elements into my training placed me a cut above my competition.

Maurice Nunes is the number one trainer in Trinidad. It was those sprints, squats, deadlifts, burpees, and hops that got me to fly so high!

On 1 August 2020, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease, which caused internal bleeding, severe weight loss and many other symptoms. I was a former national athlete who was frequently trained by Maurice Nunes. In July 2020, just before I started experiencing symptoms of Crohn’s disease, I weighed 192 pounds, training every day. Fast forward to a few months later, in November 2020, I weighed just under 130 pounds, loosing roughly over 60 pounds. While I laid in the hospital for many nights as I recovered slowly from my disease, I thought about how I was going to regain my fitness, strength and size. I knew the best place to do that was “The Yard” with Maurice. The first day I returned to train in late November 2020, I could not lift any weight I was previously accustomed to. I had to resort to the lightest weight in the yard to use. Maurice, my trainer for years now, barely even recognized me due to my significant size difference. After numerous mornings of getting up from my bed, feeling pain and soreness from the previous workouts, I now currently weigh 175 pounds and pushing all the weights I did before I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. This was all thanks to the best trainer out there, Maurice Nunes. Gaining back my weight was not by chance, it was from committing to train everyday and following Maurice’s daily workout plans. I owe great thanks to him for getting me back to where I was.

My daughter was referred to work with Coach Nunes by her pediatrician after experiencing significant weight gain and severe anxiety during the pandemic. Before 2020, she was a top student, active footballer, and had a vibrant social life. However, the pandemic left her feeling isolated and reluctant to leave the house, leading to embarrassment about her weight gain and struggles in returning to school. After much convincing, she began training with Coach Nunes. She knew athletes trained by him and respected their results. Initially hesitant, she quickly fell into a routine she genuinely enjoyed. Before long, she asked to train more often and wanted to join a group. She has lost most of the weight she gained, but most importantly, she has returned to her old self—talkative, social, and with significantly reduced anxiety. Our whole family is now healthier and more active. We are so grateful to have met Coach Nunes!

What’s known as The Yard to everyone is just home for me. The consistency, dedication, and discipline required for fitness were ingrained in me from my earliest years.

I was able to witness improvements in my speed, overall strength and my mental toughness. Guided by the expertise of Coach Maurice, I was able to achieve a level of fitness that was foreign to me. The Yard Dawgs experience is one that is composed of daily hard work, a family-like atmosphere and at least three inspirational quotes from Maurice himself per day. This is an experience I certainly recommend to anyone.

The Yard.where do I begin? What I thought would be a continuation of my weight training at university turned out to be the most strenuous training I have ever experienced. Coach Maurice pushes his athletes beyond their limits without risking injuries. Every session builds on the last, testing both physical and mental capabilities. Coach Maurice also takes the time to build relationships with his athletes, treating us more like family than clients. His flexibility with training hours has allowed me to fit in good sessions whenever I can. One surprising thing about Coach Maurice is that he works out alongside us to show that he can do it even after having a stroke. That’s a powerful motivator for me to work even harder.

I learnt very early in my membership that Maurice was a no-nonsense instructor. He always reminded us that he was committing his time and energy and he expected each individual to do their best and this could have been achieved through hard work.Aspects of this discipline and determination have now become a routine part of my life. This has impacted my approach to life which I now embrace from a strategic perspective. Despite my memories of sore muscles, aches and pains, I am extremely proud of myself. My physical fitness and wellbeing have been transformed. I am of the opinion that as a result of my current lifestyle, my academic development has been positively impacted.
